M.N. Murthy’s
PGD in Vishwa Bharathi
Shanthiniketan.
Murth’s paintings are lyrical yet sturdy, contain a
miniaturesque wash effect of colour rendering, yet the distinction between the
soothing background and the divine figure has clear distinction. Whatever
contrasting set of pictorial elements the artist presents to us; it is the
lines and colours that compete to reach out to your sight. Also, the iconographical norms are visually arrested, not because he has
created a new set of iconography (note the irony between creating and
iconography), but visually provides a contemporary anxiety in dealing with icons.
His gods are truthful to who they are: they do not agree to be visible beyond
the bounds of the artist’s expression.
